A patient with end-stage renal disease came to the hospital’s emergency room on Feb. 5. An attending physician, who was called by phone, ordered the patient be placed on a ventilator and taken to the critical care unit.
Although the attending physician allegedly said the ventilator would be sufficient for the patient, interns urged a nephrologist to put the patient on a dialysis machine five hours later. Interim CEO Ramon Rodriguez said although it seems physicians followed the standard of care, there will be “serious consequences” if the investigation reveals otherwise, according to the report.
