For Medical School Faculty, Salary Isn’t Sole Source of Happiness

Although pay and compensation are vital components of anyone’s job, they do not have a significant relationship with the overall satisfaction of medical school faculty members, according to an article in Academic Medicine.

Several physicians and researchers — through the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Faculty Forward program — reviewed surveys from more than 9,600 medical college faculty members at 23 U.S. medical schools.

Compensation was not among the top factors in faculty satisfaction. Instead, strong leadership and a culture characterized by open communication and consistent decision making were among the most consistent predictors of global satisfaction.
