Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems’ now-retired CEO Tim Hingtgen was the for-profit system’s highest-earning executive in 2025, followed by his successor Kevin Hammons, according to a proxy statement filed April 2 with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Mr. Hingtgen retired on Sept. 30, entering into a consulting agreement to continue advising CHS’ management team on healthcare operations. Mr. Hammons, who served as president and CFO, initially stepped into the chief executive role on an interim basis before being named to the role on a permanent basis in December.

CHS recorded an operating income of $1.5 billion (11.9% margin) for the year ended Dec. 31, 2025, up from $542 million (4.3% margin) during the previous year, driven in part by hospital divestiture gains.
