The platinum certification, which is the highest rating by the U.S. Green Building Council, was awarded to the Katz Women’s Hospital for its third floor renovation project. The hospital uses an average of 18.6 percent less energy and 51 percent less water than facilities without the platinum rating. In addition, wind power will generate 100 percent of the electrical power used in the hospital for the first two years.
The Katz Women’s Hospital at North Shore opened last May. Officials expect the fourth floor to also receive platinum and the fifth floor to receive gold certification.
