David Bjork, a Minneapolis-based healthcare consultant, said non-profit hospitals are expected to use their tax-exempt gains to benefit the community, not the executives. However, the “reasonable compensation” non-profits are allowed to pay under law remains unclear.
According to the report, executives’ pay is based on the person’s experience, education, market rate comparisons and the size and number of associates within an organization.
