The median national annual salary for physician assistants is $104,860, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Here are the five top-paying states for PAs:

• Washington: $120,200
• New Jersey: $119,260
• Nevada: $119,210
• North Dakota: $117,500
• Hawaii: $116,660

Here are the five top-paying metropolitan areas for PAs:

• Cedar Rapids, Iowa: $146,870
• West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach, Fla., Metropolitan Division: $143,750
• Olympia-Tumwater, Wash.: $141,510
• Spokane-Spokane Valley, Wash.: $137,240
• Mount Vernon-Anacortes, Wash.: $136,900
