10 major cities where physician pay grew the most

Average physician pay increased in most metropolitan areas across the U.S., but ongoing Medicare pay cuts and inflation mean physicians are still feeling a pinch, according to data from Doximity’s “Physician Compensation Report 2025.”

Physicians in 54 of the 60 major metropolitan areas Doximity surveyed reported pay increases, with two-thirds saying their pay jumped 3% or more in the last year. The company gathered information from 37,000 physicians across the U.S. and in different practice settings.

Overall physician pay increased 3.7% from 2023 to 2024, with many of the high growth areas being in the Midwest.

  3. Buffalo, N.Y.: 9.8%
  4. Orlando: 9.7%
  5. St. Louis, Mo.: 9.6%
  6. Nashville, Tenn.: 9.2%
  7. Rochester, Minn.: 8.7%
  8. Salt Lake City: 7.5%
  9. Riverside, Calif.: 7.4%
  10. Denver: 7%
