The new CLAS Standards, which were developed by the HHS Office of Minority Health, update the 2000 version. The standards recognize that health is “influenced by factors ranging from race and ethnicity to language, spirituality, disability status, sexual orientation, gender identity and geography,” according to the news release.
The updated standards are part of the HHS Action Plan to Reduce Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities and aim to improve the quality of care for all patients and reduce healthcare costs.
