WVU Medicine Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, W.Va., opened a pediatric subspeciality and telemedicine clinic Dec. 5 to connect patients in the region to specialists at the WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital, which is part of the system’s flagship campus in Morgantown, W.Va.
Kacie Owens, MSN, APRN, who will serve as the clinic’s local provider, will partner with pediatric subspecialists in Morgantown to coordinate care for children via telehealth, according to a health system news release. Patients seen at the clinic will have access to a full range of pediatric subspecialists at the children’s hospital.
The effort will prevent the need for many families in South Charleston from having to travel into Morgantown for their children to receive advanced care, the release said. Morgantown is about 160 miles north of South Charleston.
