The 93,000-square-foot facility will be adjacent to the Chester County Hospital’s north pavilion and will include 72 private rooms. The project is designed to increase the hospital’s inpatient bed capacity, as the population of senior citizens in the area is expected to increase in the coming years. Currently, between 170 and 210 of the hospital’s 220 beds are occupied each day.
The hospital laid off 45 employees in March, representing a 3 percent reduction in its workforce. The hospital hopes to rehire some of these employees when the new patient tower opens, which is expected to occur in approximately 18 months.
