Standing for five or more hours can be rough on OR staff. The study looked at 100 laparoscopic procedures, 50 with the foot gel pad used. The group that did not use the gel pad reported much more foot, knee and back pain, as well as overall discomfort and lack of energy in the immediate postoperative period.
Twenty-four hours after the surgeries, staff reports were much more favorable toward gel pads as they had more energy and less foot pain and overall discomfort, the study showed.
