Holy Cross Germantown (Md.) Hospital’s new name, although seemingly obvious, was chosen deliberately to reflect its brand, according to a Washington Business Journal report.

Holy Cross Hospital received final approval of a certificate of need to build a new hospital May 31, at which time it announced the name of the new hospital — Holy Cross Germantown Hospital.

Holy Cross Hospital worked with eight focus groups in the neighboring counties to choose the new hospital’s name. Group members overwhelmingly supported the Germantown Hospital name, a choice which demonstrates that the Holy Cross brand is recognizable and valued, said Marketing Vice President Diane Meyers, according to the report.

The hospital’s next project will be choosing a name for the system that will be created once the Germantown hospital opens in 2014, according to the report.
