Originally, the hospital planned to open only one 32-bed patient unit and a shell in two additional floors of the Center for Advanced Heart Care. Patient demand, however, has caused the hospital to revise its plans to open patient units on all three floors by the end of the summer.
The project encompasses 123,000 square feet and will add a 32-bed unit to one floor for heart and family medicine patients; a 32-bed acute-care unit on a second floor for ear, nose and throat and neuroscience patients; and a 20-bed intensive care unit on a third floor. As the added beds would exceed the hospital’s licensed limit of 620 adult beds, hospital officials plan to apply to the state for a 745-bed limit.
In addition, the hospital plans to open six new operating rooms and 19 pre- and post-surgical beds by the end of the summer.
