The project includes expanding and renovating the emergency department and building a new fixed MRI unit. The current ED was designed for 6,000 annual patient visits, but the hospital now sees more than 13,000 annual visits. BMH will add 2,463 square feet to the existing 8,509 square feet to increase capacity. The ED will have 12 treatment beds, two rapid treatment rooms for minor conditions, two psychiatric/substance abuse safe rooms and a larger waiting area.
The new MRI unit will upgrade current equipment and will replace the hospital’s mobile MRI. The hospital estimates the updated equipment, which can scan a broader range of patients, will increase annual MRI studies by 225.
