Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa., has had a 10 percent increase in inpatient and outpatient services since Marian Community Hospital’s closing and is considering adding a sixth hospitalist to meet the higher demand, according to the report. Mid-Valley Hospital in Blakely, Pa., Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pa., and Regional Hospital of Scranton have also experienced increased volume.

To help fill the gap of care in Carbondale, Commonwealth Health, part of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, opened an outpatient clinic in a vacated Marian Community Hospital facility in Carbondale that offers laboratory testing, X-ray services and electrocardiograms. Wayne Memorial Hospital also filled a vacant Marian facility in Forest City, Pa., with a clinic for laboratory testing and is planning to open a clinic in Waymart, Pa., next month, according to the report.
