The project will include 75 private rooms and specialty areas for cardiology, oncology, geriatrics and trauma care. The expansion will increase the hospital’s capacity and relieve crowding in the ED. Patient visits to the ED have increased nearly 70 percent from 2005, growing to 110,484 annual visits last year, according to the report. The new facility will accommodate up to 120,000 annual ED visits.

Construction will begin this month and is expected to be completed by 2015.
