The IHA, based in San Diego, grants the award to hospitals or health systems that integrate technologies to provide a comprehensive solution in a healthcare facility. Ochsner implemented an enterprise system in which pharmacists can share data between their enterprise server and health IT systems, allowing clinicians to access pharmacy data to aid in medication management, according to a news release.
Ochsner also standardized its formulary into one common formulary across the health system, which includes 13 hospitals and more than 50 healthcare centers, allowing pharmacy and IT to more easily manage and configure the system to improve medication safety and efficiency, according to the news release.
“Our vision started with the patient and how to create a medication management system that was safer and easier to manage,” said Deborah Simonson, assistant vice president of pharmacy at Ochsner Health System. “The Pharmacy IT lead was critical to understanding nurses’ needs and simplifying what end users would see when they navigate medication administration workflows.”
