After LICH closed its ED, a freestanding emergency department opened up in the area in October. Since opening, it has accommodated 4,400 visits.
NYU Langone disclosed its plans build its own ambulatory care center and freestanding emergency department at the LICH location in a recent state Department of Health filing. The ED overhaul, which is estimated to cost $204 million, will replace the nearby facility that had been handling patients’ healthcare needs since October.
According to NYU Langone‘s application filing, the relocation is necessary because the current site is “less than an ideal space and will not be able to accommodate the projected visit volume or provide amenities that patients expect,” Crain’s New York Business reported.
The proposed facility will be roughly 160,000 square feet and will include a multispecialty ambulatory surgery, cancer center, diagnostic imaging center, laboratory and pharmacy. The ED will include patient bays, 12 private flex-patient spaces and two inpatient beds, according to the report.
