The unit will be used to observe patients with chest pain who can be transferred to community-based services instead of being admitted to the hospital. The unit, which will work closely with the emergency department, aims to reduce wait times and serve more patients.
Daniel Dromm, a member of the New York City Council, allocated $1 million for the project.
