St. Louis-based Mercy will open a primary care clinic at Alice L. Walton School of Medicine in Bentonville, Ark.
The 6,534-square-foot clinic, slated to open Nov. 23, will provide preventive care for adult patients, including annual wellness exams, ongoing condition management, diagnosis and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, labs and immunizations, according to a Nov. 2 system news release. The clinic will start with four full-time staff: a physician, a nurse, a receptionist and a practice manager, TB&P reported. Medical students will earn clinical hours at the clinic.
“Through our partnership with Alice L. Walton School of Medicine, we’re also creating an environment where future physicians can learn alongside dedicated caregivers while helping us advance the health of our community,” Sonal Bhakta, MD, chief medical officer for Mercy Northwest Arkansas, said in the release.
This is the system’s first clinic inside of a medical school.
Alice Walton is the heiress to Walmart. The school welcomed its first cohort of students, who received waived tuition, in July 2024. The nonprofit, independent medical school says it trains students in whole-person health, humanities, integrative health approaches, research and advanced technologies.
