The announcement comes after a tornado ripped through the Joplin community in May, leaving the town and hospital in shambles. The health system plans to break ground on the new hospital in Jan 2012 and is expected to open the hospital and its secondary northeast campus in 2014.
Mercy will rebuild with 327 inpatient beds to support the region and a planned expansion up to 424 beds. Services to be offered include medical surgical care, critical care, women and children’s services (including labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms), behavioral health and rehab.
