Researchers developed an HMED team to conduct active bed management in collaboration with nursing supervisors and medical floors, and to care for boarded patients.
The following results occurred after creating the HMED team:
• Diversion due to bed capacity decreased 27 percent.
• The percentage of patients transferred to a medicine floor and discharged within eight hours decreased 67 percent.
• The number of admitted medicine patients discharged from the ED increased 61 percent.
• Boarded admitted patients were rounded on two hours earlier.
