Louisiana Hospital Seeking Voter Approval for $11.5 Million to Build Larger ER, Refinance Debt

St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling, La., is asking voters to approve the hospital borrowing $11.5 million that will go toward refinancing $6.3 million in bond dept, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Any money left over from the refinancing and the remain $5.2 million of the $11.5 million would go toward building an emergency room that is more than triple the size of the hospital’s current ER.

St. Charles Parish’s administrator reports that the hospital’s ER sees six times the traffic per bed as the national average and patients often leave without care because of the long ER waits, according to the Times-Picayune story.
