Construction on an emergency department expansion and a new, 30-bed medical-surgical unit at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is set to begin in summer 2025.

The multi-year project also includes renovations and an EPIC EHR integration at Jefferson Einstein University Hospital, according to a Feb. 11 news release. The facility recently opened newly expanded trauma bays and a 20-bed observation unit to enhance ED and inpatient flows. The EPIC integration at Jefferson Einstein University Hospital is slated to be complete by September 2026.

Officials anticipate the modernization efforts to ease pressure on emergency departments and improve operational efficiency.

In August, Jefferson completed a merger with Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network to form a 32-hospital system with more than 700 sites of care.
