Integra, Unitedhealthcare launch Rhode Island’s first Medicaid ACO

Integra Community Care Network, a Providence, R.I.-based, CMS-certified accountable care organization, is teaming up with UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Rhode Island to roll out a Medicaid accountable care entity through the State of Rhode Island Accountable Entities Pilot.

The goal of this partnership, which is a first for the state, is to improve patient health outcomes for UnitedHealthcare Medicaid enrollees, increase satisfaction and reduce costs. Integra and UnitedHealthcare will work together to achieve this by enhancing care coordination, sharing technology and information, and providing services to help patients manage chronic conditions.

The pilot program is part of the state’s Reinventing Medicaid Act of 2015, which aims to restructure Rhode Island’s Medicaid program to achieve tens of millions of dollars in savings annually without reducing the program’s offerings.

“From the start, our work to reinvent Medicaid was driven by the goal to expand access to care, improve quality and coordination and lower costs for taxpayers,” Rhode Island Gov. Gina M. Raimondo (D), said in a statement. “Accountable entities like this will reward collaboration and help spark transformation throughout Medicaid. I applaud Integra and UnitedHealthcare for leading the way on this effort.”
