A Jan. 10 winter storm dropped up to 8 inches of snow in North Texas and up to 10 inches in other Southern states, according to CNN and CBS affiliate KWTX.
Here is how hospitals and health systems prepared to operate, according to CBS News:
- Cook Children’s Medical Center inflated more than 200 air mattresses in case staff needed to stay on site. The Fort Worth, Texas-based hospital also ensured it had enough food, medication, linen and other supplies ahead of the storm.
- Arlington-based Texas Health Resources offered overnight accommodations for staff, treated entryways and sidewalks, and checked pipes, heaters and backup systems.
- Medical City Healthcare, Baylor Scott & White and Children’s Health — systems all based in Dallas — said they train for these rare events with strategies such as drills.
