The Stronger Hearts Helpline is a bilingual pilot program through which individuals can call 2-1-1, ask for the helpline and receive confidential support from trained, live operators who can direct them to free or low-cost services.

Resources offered include:

  • Referrals to medical professionals and clinics
  • Information about heart failure and its treatment
  • Exercise programs, nutrition and mental health programs
  • Help with transportation to an appointment with a physician

The program will operate in San Bernardino County, Calif., an area in which nearly 20 percent of Medicare recipients are being treated for heart failure. More than 5.1 million people are affected by heart failure in the U.S. every year.
