The process aims to improve the patient experience through enhanced safety, quality and timeliness of transfer from the ED to inpatient care. In the new process, the transfer will occur at the patient bedside in the ED with the patient, family members, the ED care team and the inpatient nurse assigned to the patient. The inpatient nurse will receive reports on the patient and accompany him or her to the appropriate inpatient room.

Bedside reports allow the patient and family members to ask questions of or alert the entire care team of any medical or personal issues, according to the release.
