Wauwatosa, Wisc.-based Froedtert Hospital is planning to open a 24/7 specialized obstetric emergency department, it said in a Sept. 30 news release.
The new ED is expected to open in spring 2026 and will take over a space previously occupied by the Children’s Wisconsin Emergency Department. The obstetric ED is part of a larger expansion to the academic medical center’s birth center, which will add 12 new labor and delivery rooms and a new C-section suite.
“This expansion addresses the growing need for specialized maternal care in our region,” Austin Reeder, president of Froedtert Hospital, said in the release. “The dedicated Birth Center entrance and obstetric emergency department will improve access, allowing us to better serve expectant families with dedicated resources and specialized physicians and clinicians.”
Froedtert Hospital is the 766-bed academic medical center of the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network.
