UNC Health Care, WakeMed and Duke University Health System have formed partnerships with dozens of local physicians this year, giving the hospitals more control over the market.
The affiliations could force consumers to choose certain hospitals for their procedures. Health plans that choose not to cooperate with hospitals and physicians could be forced out of relationships with health systems.
