NorthShore University Health System, based in Evanston, Ill., has edged out its local competitor and acquired a 15-physician practice, according to a Crain’s Chicago Business report.
The system acquired Highland Park, Ill.-based Ravinia Associates in Internal Medicine. Evanston-based Northwestern Memorial HealthCare had also expressed interest in buying the physician group, but a deal was never reached, according to the report.
The president of Ravinia said a deal with NorthShore was reached only after another health system approached Ravinia. He declined to name the system, but said the multiple proposals prompted physicians to consider a deal that would relieve them from operational and administrative costs. The physicians felt NorthShore management could do a better job than the practice alone, according to the report.
