Community Health Systems Forming Integrated System in Washington State Through Merger With Multispecialty Practice

The merger between CHS Washington Holdings and Rockwood Clinic, a multi-specialty clinic with 32 locations across the Inland Northwest, will create a fully integrated healthcare delivery system with 388-bed Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane and 123-bed Valley Hospital and Medical Center in Spokane Valley.

The integrated system will include hospital services, primary care physicians, specialists, ASCs, urgent care facilities, outpatient physical therapy centers and outpatient imaging.

Rockwell Clinic CEO Craig Whiting, MD, praised the merger in a separate release. “Our internal planning over the last few months has made for one of the most progressive and productive dialogues we have ever undertaken as an organization,” he said. “We are excited to take this important step and look forward to many years of growth, success and continued service to our patients and the community.”

Although Rockwood is merging with CHS Washington Holdings, it will retain its name. It will be part of a non-profit, tax-paying professional corporation, the clinic stated.

Rockwood Clinic employs more than 220 physicians in more than 30 specialties and providers and a total of more than 1,100 employees.

CHS owns, leases or operates 122 hospitals in 29 states with total of about 18,000 licensed beds.
