The Trump administration is directing $11.7 million through the Rural Health Transformation Program to support rural nursing care facilities and strengthen Vermont’s healthcare workforce.
Vermont is committing $9 million of the funding to tuition benefits for healthcare professionals in underserved or hard-to-fill positions who commit to serving rural communities in the state for at least five years after graduation, according to a Sept. 10 CMS news release.
The remaining $2.7 million will support three rural nursing homes and four community partners. The nursing homes will use the funding to increase their capacity to care for residents with complex medical issues, while the community partners will expand training for licensed nursing assistants.
The funding will also support the purchase of ventilators for nursing homes and the opening of a “dialysis den” at a Vermont nursing home to provide dialysis closer to residents and community members.
