Christus Santa Rosa’s more than 40-year partnership with UTHSC-San Antonio ended when the university chose to partner with Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia instead of Christus to build a freestanding children’s hospital in San Antonio.
Christus Santa Rosa is currently building a $135 million, 800,000-square-foot expansion and renovation of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital in San Antonio, which also includes a name change to Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.
Christus Santa Rosa’s possible partnership with Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital could include the following, according to the statement:
• A residency training program.
• Recruiting pediatric subspecialists.
• New and existing research initiatives.
• Expanding pediatric subspecialty programs and services in areas like bone marrow transplant and pediatric trauma.
• Adding a comprehensive high-risk obstetrics and maternal fetal medicine program.
• Developing outreach programs and referral networks.
Mr. Carrier said the health system could continue to partner with UTHSC-San Antonio for specific areas of adult medicine.
Kenneth L. Kalkwarf, DDS, MS, president ad interim of UTHSC-San Antonio, also expressed a desire to continue to work collaboratively with Christus in patient care, according to a UTHSC-San Antonio news release.
