The Charlotte-based giant, which has a relatively loose network of 6,000 hospital beds, will allow AnMed to remain independent while providing it with assistance such as enhanced services, managing costs and recruiting new physicians.

Anmed, which runs two acute care hospitals with a total of 133 beds, also announced it is affiliating with a third hospital, 55-bed Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens, S.C., which will remain independent but will be managed by Anmed.
