Senate Spending Bill Would Provide Funding for Rural Hospital Construction

A Transportation, Housing and Urban Development spending bill — which was approved yesterday by the Senate Appropriations Committee — includes a provision that would extend rural hospitals’ access to the Federal Housing Authorities’ Section 242 mortgage insurance program through July 2016, according to an AHA News Now report.

The bill, introduced by Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), would help finance construction and improvement projects at 1,329 rural hospitals. The bill is supported by the American Hospital Association.
