The authors wrote that the OR is a social environment in which people’s interactions can have powerful implications for patient outcomes. They cite a number of studies that have suggested a link between civility in the OR and the quality of care.
They said surgeons should create a culture of civility in the OR by developing positive interpersonal behavior early in their career.
