Age of first-time mothers climbs in the US, study finds

A recent CDC study suggests American women are postponing parenthood and fewer teens are giving birth. The study shows women are having their first child has risen to a record high of 26.3 years in 2014, according to a recent

The study examined data from 2000, when the average age of mothers for all births was 24.9 years, through 2014. The most pronounced increased in the average age for all births occurred between 2009 and 2014.

Currently, Asian or Pacific Islander mothers in the U.S. have the oldest average age (29.5 years) when they first give birth. American Indian or Alaska Native mothers tend to be the youngest (23.1 years).
