100 established transfer centers later, 4 lessons of advice on optimizing health system operations

Having a robust transfer / referral center makes it easier to make sure patients get the right care, in the right place, at the right time. By centralizing operations across an enterprise, admission requests from other hospitals and local physicians can be coordinated—often times through a single phone call or web request.

In a recent blog post by Joy Avery, RN, MSN, VP of Clinical Strategy at TeleTracking, Avery dives into how she assembled the first transfer center at North Mississippi Medical Center in 2006 and continued involvement with the launch of more than 100 transfer centers while at TeleTracking. In many cases, the transfer center became an Enterprise Command Center – resembling NASAs Mission Control Center.
