Approximately 60 percent of people aged 65 or older had access to only 38 percent of cardiologists. In addition, rural and socioeconomically disadvantaged areas had a lower concentration of cardiologists.
The authors suggest telemedicine and economic incentives could distribute the cardiology workforce more equitably.
