Charleston, W.Va.-based Vandalia Health has broken ground on a $30 million neighborhood hospital in Bridgeport, Va.

The planned two-story, 40,000-square-foot facility will offer 24/7 emergency services, inpatient care, advanced imaging, and space for future clinical expansion. Designed for speed, efficiency , convenience and personalized service, the hospital aims to deliver a high-quality care experience closer to where patients live and work.

“We know from experience that neighborhood hospitals can make a big impact — offering fast, expert care in a setting that feels more personal and accessible,” said Christopher Edwards, DO, emergency services director of Mon Health System and chief administrative officer for Mon Marion and Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospitals, part of Vandalia Health. “We’re not just replicating a small-format hospital — we’re replicating a care experience that’s proven and consistently exceeds standards.”

The hospital’s first floor will include:

  • An emergency department with eight treatment rooms
  • Ten private inpatient rooms for short-stay hospital care
  • Advanced imaging including CT, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray and echocardiography
  • Pharmacy and lab services

The second floor will be constructed as shell space, providing flexibility for future services based on evolving community needs.

“By bringing care directly into the neighborhoods where people live and work, we’re reinforcing Vandalia Health’s mission to provide accessible, quality care that puts patients first,” said David Goldberg, president and CEO of Mon Health System and Davis Health System-Vandalia Health-Northern Region, and executive vice president of Vandalia Health.

Vandalia Health comprises 17 hospitals, three hospital affiliates, and more than 220 outpatient locations across the region. The new Bridgeport facility will become its 18th acute-care hospital upon completion.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.
