Here are five things to know about the project.
1. The four-story facility will take approximately two years to build. The emergency room will open in the first quarter of 2020.
2. The ER, which has become the state’s busiest, has the capacity to treat 185,000 people each year and will be connected to the rest of the hospital through a two-level bridge.
3. Patient treatment rooms will increase from 84 to 130 and include 16 pediatric rooms.
4. The ER will feature additional entrances for the 400 cars and ambulances delivering patients to allow patients with acute needs to be treated sooner.
5. Hospital executives said the expansion will be funded through bonds, capital funds and donations from the community, according to the report.
