Marietta, Ga.-based Wellstar Health System has filed a certificate of need application for a $1 billion, 230-bed hospital in Acworth, Ga.
The health system shared plans to file a letter of intent with the state’s department of health for the hospital in late May.
Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center at Acworth would be an eight-story, 675,000-square-foot facility. It would comprise 70 emergency department bays and eight operating rooms, according to a June 23 news release.
The proposed facility would also create more than 1,500 healthcare and related roles, the release said.
