Carilion Roanoke (Va.) Memorial Hospital is expanding its Crystal Spring Tower as part of a $500 million investment.
The first phase of the tower, which will open this spring, includes an expanded emergency department and the region’s only level 1 trauma center, according to a hospital fact sheet shared with Becker’s.
The expanded emergency department and trauma center will comprise five trauma bays, 125 ED beds, a pediatric emergency waiting area and an additional helipad.
The hospital’s emergency department underwent a $14 million expansion in 2018 but has since needed to expand due to an increased patient volume.
The Crystal Spring Tower project will also house Carilion Clinic’s Cardiovascular Institute, which will open this spring.
