Nashville-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center can move forward with plans to build a full-service hospital in Murfreesboro, Tenn., after the Davidson County Chancery Court affirmed the Tennessee Health Facilities Commission’s approval of the facility.
VUMC initially received approval from the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency for the hospital in 2021, but its certificate of need was denied in 2023 after heavy opposition from other healthcare organizations, Nashville Business Journal reported Jan. 22.
The hospital was expected to cost $144 million, according to a 2021 VUMC news release.
The 42-bed hospital will serve both adults and children and comprise an emergency department, OR suite, adult intensive care unit beds, radiologic imaging and multiple adult and pediatric specialties, a spokesperson for VUMC said in a Jan. 29 statement shared with Becker’s.
“Since 2020, Vanderbilt Health has remained committed to this project,” the statement said. “We look forward to providing personalized care closer to home for the residents of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County.”
Becker’s has followed up with VUMC regarding the hospital cost and will update this story should more information become available.
