The new west wing of the facility includes a cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology lab, an ICU, patient care unit, an expanded surgical suite and additional space for Howard Head Sports Medicine. During the construction, which took two years to complete, the medical center kept all services operating.
In addition to the expansion, the medical center also changed its name to Vail Health to recognize the expansion of the hospital from a one-room clinic in the 1960s to a locally operated nonprofit that spans across nine towns, according to the report.
This fall, Vail Health will begin expanding the hospital’s east wing, which will include a 24/7 emergency department, a new helipad, additional parking, a new pharmacy and more, according to Vail Daily.
