The new hospital will include 102 private rooms, 24 long-term acute care beds and 12 suites for labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum stays. UPMC Memorial Hospital will be about 40 percent bigger than its predecessor and will employ 640 employees, 140 more than the old hospital.
The old hospital stopped taking direct admissions on Aug. 11. On Aug. 15, emergency medical services and ambulances stopped transporting emergency patients to the old hospital; however, emergency walk-ins at the old hospital will be accepted until the early morning of Aug. 18, when UPMC Memorial will open to emergency and admitted patients, according to the York Daily Record.
Any patients remaining at the old hospital will be transferred Aug. 18. Elective surgeries will start at UPMC Memorial on Aug. 19.
A $290 million outpatient center at UPMC Memorial will open last on Sept. 9, according to the report.
