The Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan Board of Regents approved a $62 million expansion of University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Clinton Hospital in St. Johns, Mich., NBC affiliate WILX reported July 14.
The project adds 19,000 square feet of new hospital space, renovates 42,000 square feet of existing space and builds a new 22,000-square-foot ambulatory care center, according to the report. The project is expected to take about 37 months to complete.
Planned upgrades include converting nearly all patient rooms to private rooms, expanding oncology space, increasing surgical capacity, offering MRI services seven days a week, adding a second CT scanner and expanding primary care services, according to the report.
UM Health-Sparrow Clinton is a critical access hospital serving Clinton County and surrounding rural communities, according to the report. The project follows a nearly $30 million ambulatory care center Michigan Regents approved last year for UM Health-Sparrow Ionia (Mich.), which Regional Market President Linda Reetz said will serve as a blueprint for the Clinton expansion.
