UHS grows freestanding ER footprint

King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services added six freestanding emergency departments in 2025, according to its annual report released April 9. 

As of January, UHS has 35 fully operational freestanding ERs, according to the report. In 2025, the freestanding ERs managed more than 542,000 emergency visits and coordinated nearly 33,000 patient transfers. 

UHS operates freestanding ERs in five states, with Texas and Nevada accounting for 29 of the 35 departments. Sixteen are located in Texas and 13 are located in Nevada. UHS also operates five in Florida and one in South Carolina.

The six freestanding ERs UHS added in 2025 were all located in either Texas or Nevada:

  • Doctors Hospital Emergency Room Wright Ranch (Laredo, Texas)
  • ER at Desert Springs (Las Vegas)
  • ER at North Valleys (Reno, Nev.)
  • ER at South Summerlin (Las Vegas)
  • Northwest Emergency at Eastern (Amarillo, Texas)
  • Northwest Emergency at Tascosa (Amarillo, Texas) 

The system said it is continuing to add to its freestanding ER portfolio, with three currently under construction.
