UHS building Washington, DC, freestanding ER

King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services has shared plans to develop a freestanding emergency department on the Fletcher-Johnson Campus in Washington, D.C.'s Ward 7 district.

The freestanding ED is part of an agreement between UHS and the district to invest $75 million in healthcare infrastructure in the area, according to a March 6 news release shared with Becker's

The facility will comprise multiple emergency service capabilities and technologies, like laboratory services, a medication room and imaging. It will treat a wide range of conditions including life-threatening injuries, broken bones, stroke symptoms, illness, lacerations and chest pain. 

"The Fletcher-Johnson Campus redevelopment has and will continue to be a community-driven project that delivers the services, amenities, and housing that Marshall Heights [Washington, D.C.] and Ward 7 residents want and deserve," Nina Albert, deputy mayor for planning and economic development, said in the release. "We look forward to working with UHS to [bring] this new health care facility online and continuing our work on the Fletcher-Johnson Campus."

UHS, a hospital and healthcare services provider, comprises 400 acute care hospitals, behavioral health facilities and ambulatory centers spanning across the U.S., the U.K. and Puerto Rico, according to its website. It also operates George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C.
